The Locassa client application contains a lot of in-built help information, but below are a few questions that have been asked...

I have concerns about privacy, how do you handle my location information?

Every item and person on Locassa has a public location which is visible without restriction. This is your 'base' location and is how people find you. This location is chosen by you and can be anywhere you like, it does not have to be your actual location.

If you wish to use the location updates feature of Locassa then please be aware that this will cause you real location to be sent to our servers. Anyone who is in your community list AND whom you have selected '...can see my location' at the bottom of the community detail page will be able to see this location. You can remove your private location at any time, at which point anyone who could previously see your private location would see you revert back to your public location.

All location information is sent over SSL connections to further protect your privacy.

What exactly is Time Step and what is it for?

Time Step is a way of turning back the Locassa clock (or turning it forward) to view the items that were valid on the map at that time. Most items on Locassa have a valid from date and valid to date which means that items will appear on the map when they are due and disappear when they are out of date.

Certain items such as comments and photos have a validity period of a week or so, whereas businesses and local information have a much longer validity period.

Entering Time Step mode allows you to view those items that have not yet appeared and also those that have already expired.

Some items have disappeared, where did they go?

Items can disappear for a number of reasons.

  • The item is no longer valid for the current date or the Time Step date (if active). Use the Time Step feature to set the date to a time when the item was valid.
  • You have a filter active which is hiding the item you are interested in. Simply reset the filter and the items may reappear.
  • The item may have contained offensive content and such may have been removed.
  • If the item is not rated very highly, and you are zoomed out of the map, the item may not show. Zoom in on the expected item location and it may reappear.

How do I scheduled items to be added to the map at a future / past date?

There is no scheduling of items as such, but you can activate Time Step mode and add your item in the new timeframe. You will be warned that Time Step is active and asked if you wish to turn it off before adding the item, choosing 'no' will result in the item being valid from the current Time Step date and time.

What should I keep in my community list?

Your community list can contain any type of item, not just people, and serves two real purposes, firstly it is like a favourites or bookmarks area, allowing you to quickly find the items without having to search for them again. Secondly it allows you to request that you receive notifications when certain actions happen to specific items. So basically, if you want to find the item again easier, or be notified when it changes then put it in your community list.

When I zoom in or out, the items on the map change, why is this?

To keep the client application running smoothly, we limit the number of items on the screen at any given time, giving the highest rated items priority. You can zoom in and at each level you should find more items will populate the map at increasingly lower ratings.

My favourite bar / restaurant etc, is not on the map, what should I do?

Add it! Locassa is all about sharing your knowledge on your local community, so if you find we have missed something then add it for others to find.

Is Locassa able to track my location in the background when the client is not running?

Unfortunately at the moment this is not possible with the iPhone application (due to restrictions in the iPhone OS) but we are working towards integrating operator specific functionality to allow this in a future update.

What geographic areas are covered by Locassa?

At the moment Locassa is a UK service, and is only available in the UK Apple App Store. Depending on take-up of the service and user requests we aim to roll-out Locassa to other countries soon.

How do I add something to my community list?

Simply view the item detail, open the item menu at the bottom and click 'Remember'.

An item no longer exists or is incorrect, what should I do?

If you find an item that no longer exists or is in the incorrect location, view the item detail page, open the item menu and click 'Report Item'. Enter the reason for reporting and an optional message to assist us in dealing with your message.

I found some offensive content, how do I get it removed?

If you find offensive content and wish to report it,view the item detail page, open the item menu and click 'Report Item'. Choose 'Contains inappropriate content' from the reason menu and send the report to us.

How do I access the help menus?

Locassa contains lots of in-built help; to open the help screen simply touch and hold the screen for a few seconds until the help appears. NOTE: The help screens will not appear if you tap and hold on certain items such as buttons or text boxes.

I added a business but I am not the owner, why is that?

For certain items such as businesses, Locassa automatically becomes the owner, this is both for legal reasons and to allow us to assign ownership of the item to the legal owner should they wish. We don't stop you adding the item and choosing an image and a description though.
